Campaign Loans and Campaign Debt Repayments - McCain Finegold v. Citizens United
The 2002 law that Citizens United really gutted the heart of had other provisions and we skipped over those in our discussion of that case. But they treated campaign loans differently than campaign spending. Campaigns can continue to receive contributions after election day so long as those contributions go towards repaying campaign debts. And even if you lose, you can still under certain conditions continue to fundraise to pay off campaign debts.
