Henry VIII's Religious Revolution

In his reign, Henry saw himself as the rightful arbiter of religious doctrine. His views shifted in response to papal intransigence and pushback from parliament. Elizabeth's middle path was disdainful of radical ideas circulating on continent. She turned weapons of state oppression against them so that both Catholics and radical Protestants were in danger during her reign.
