K is the greek letter that looks like an elongated x. A modern use of k doesn't even refer to the greek k kapper. In european languages in general, there are weird words like cileastic which sort of means milinarian, or apocalyptic. Forcilo, the common metric prefix, it is, of course, switched to a k.
