The Average Software Engineer's Focus Time Drops by Nine Plus Hours
The average software engineer spends almost half of their week in focus time. After moving into management, the average engineering manager's focus time drops by nine plus hours due to an additional seven hours per week in meetings. And so even if maybe they only have a few more hours of meetings per week, they actually have like no focus time because of the effects that I was just talking about. The data kind of gives it a nice hint and entry point into understanding that phenomenon a little bit better.
