The Singularity of AI

Where does AI fit into this almost religious belief in parts of the tech world that we're approaching the so-called singularity, a moment when human and machine. will essentially merge? What what's up with that? The perspective of the singularity is that secretly we all want to be computers one. But we've been really interesting work in history done excavating it which I think more properly situated as a history of of mystical of Christian mysticism seeping in or structuring background assumptions about how we can create reality.
