Don't we fast to show God how desperately we need the blessing that we're fasting for? Doesn't it intensify our sense of feeling and the depth of our desire? I care about the blessing that I'm seeking more than the food that I'm missing. And so doesn't it increase the volume of our prayers? I can put it that way, to make our voice to be heard on high.
