In our weaker moments, I think that the feeling is get rid of the goddamn gatekeepers. But how much more productive would we be if stuckness did not characterize most fields? Well, it's an interesting question. When a scientific field is broken, it can only advance funeral by funeral and that is the difference between a well functioning field and a poorly functioning field whether or not it requires the death of the Lysenkoists if you will who are holding back reality.
