Is There a Connection Between Reading Fiction and Social Ability?

Raymond: A central question in a lot of your work has been about this association that's been observed between reading fictions and certain socio-cognitive abilities such as theory of mind and mentalizing ability. Raymond: The way I like to think about it is that stories are a great opportunity for us to practice a lot of the cognitive skills that we would use in order to understand other people and better navigate the social world. And so in my thinking, there's at least two ways in which prolonged, repeated frequent exposure with narrative fiction could help to promote social cognition or social abilities.
