Cataline and the Catanarian Conspiracy
Cicero was a successful lawyer who came out from the ranks of strivers and became some one to be reckoned with. He went to sicily, where he had previously served in a lower fice, collected amazing trunks and depositions of evidence. Catherin staele wed come on the cateline conspiracy soon after that. How did it come to be a conspiracy? Well, much of our initial evidence for it comes from cicero, who, of course, had suppressed it. And therefore has a very particular story to tell about the wickedness of cataline and the extent to which this is a threat to the republic.
