Is There a Cascade of Interventions?

A woman is totally, totally comfortable at home. She's listening to music, taking a bath and breathing her way through. All of a sudden she's got to get in the car and then go to a hospital. The first thing that happens is some stranger sticks his fingers in a very uncomfortable position right there. And all of a sudden now she's strapped up to equipment. They put a fetal heart monitor on. Well, that kind of discomfort can cause a woman's body to start to shut down.
