The Importance of IV Fluids in the ICU
The predicted 90-day mortality according to the SMS ICU score was 40% and patients were predominantly admitted from emergency departments or wards. The predominant focus of infection in both groups in the classic trial was gastrointestinal followed by pulmonary focus. We did have a number of protocol violations in classic so a total of 21.5 percent had one or more protocol violations during ICU stay in the restrictive group, 13 percent in the standard group.
