Your tort power is how you can sue a car maker if a car maker has known defective airbags. Tort lawsuits create a system where it is economically unfeasible for corporations to keep killing people. In an ideal world regulations force corporations to make safe products like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration should require cars to be safe.
