Ad Supported Social Media Platforms Have Completely Misaligned Incentives

With an ad supported social media platform, all that matters is engagement. The more you're on there, the more ads we can put in front of you to target those adds. What you're doing is getting artificial neural networks to learn the darkest recesses of the human brain. And it creates terrible lord of the flies, everyone going after everyone. Seven seconds after beeng on twitter, you feel upset. That is the outcome. It's a completely different incentive. Now, i don't know if i share galloway's optimism that this would create aa monster company. But i think woudbe a very profitable company and a very useful company. I hope that actually happens.
