The Safeness of the MMR Vaccine
Measles is a disease of only humans. There's no animal reservoirs to worry about. If we can eradicate it from the human population, we eradicate it. Period. We've seen a huge decrease in measles but they have a hard road in front of them for a number of reasons. One dose of the MMR vaccine is about 93% effective against measles and two doses, which is what's recommended in the US,. The World Health Organization would like to have everyone vaccinated with two doses. It's 97% effective. So that means that 97% of people will have immunity to measles after two vaccinations.
