The State Isn't Withering Away
Anarchism is a big source of major disagreement amongst socialists. I think that the idea that you don't have a state if it's not expressing, like class conflict, domination of one class of or another, is wrong. Poverty and affluence is probably the main driver of violent crime. Even in super egalitarian society where poverty was long since the thing to be avoided, there would still be political conflicts about how to use resources. And yeah, certainly drug abuse is an obvious example where personal vigilantism wouldn't work.
