Ethics and Suicide
Many suicides are momentary decisions where someone has simply received some bad units, they've suddenly been sacked from their job. And therefore they don't deserve that kind of rich protection of autonomy. I think Tony Nicholson would be an example of someone who had thought through the issues very very carefully was very familiar with his condition and had reached a clearly capacitors decision. But many many suicides are not of that nature. They're spontaneous. They reflected an emergency of the moment. So there's lots of ways that an exploration of whether somebody might say I want to die but to explore more deeply what are their real deep desires.
