The Life and Adventures of Ibn Batuta
Ibn Batuta was a Berber Maghrebby, the predominant people of northwest Africa. He grew up into what someone in Western society might call a gentleman. Ibn Batuta came from a family of Islamic legal scholars and judges known as Qaddis. The journey to Mecca was roughly 3,700 miles or 6,000 kilometers. Every Muslim required to go on a haj at some point in their life assuming they were physically capable.
