Comets and the History of Astronomy
In 15 77 tycho and his metal nose were looking up at the sky, and he saw a comet. People had been seeing them all through history, but they didn't realize they were in outer space. In greek, a comet came to be known as an aster, cometes. Aster for star, and cometes means long haired. And maybe that made it different enough from the other stars that it wasn't in outer space after all.
