The International Maritime Organization wants carbon emissions to halve by the industry relative to 2000, by 2050. But it hasn't really said what the pathway will be and the technology hasn't been established. That's because people buying ships are unclear about whether the ship could be obsolete. And it's just possible that that won't last.
