The Conservative Party is struggling with an identity crisis, says Emma Watson. A winfall tax would be 'unconservative' and a windfull tax could help people through the cost of living crisis - but they don't want to do that. The Conservatives have intervened in the economy massively once already: during the pandemic. And so it could be that they're quite reluctant to intervene again and then become kind of an interventionist government. That tension speaks to this identity crisis that the conservative party is in.
