The History of AT&T

In 1984, when the company was broken up, one of these new baby bells was called South Western Bell. In 2000, this larger company acquired General Telephone and Electric, GTE. And they called this massive new telephone company, Drumroll, please, Verizon. So in short, New York telephone merged with many, many other companies to form Verizon. Then in 2005, it actually purchased AT&T. I mean, we're talking this is a Greek tragedy.
