The Benefits of Public Works for the City of Philadelphia

The first municipal water supply in the United States was built by Benjamin Latrobe. Historians have argued that it removed the need for maintaining supplies of standing water, which could serve as breeding grounds for 80s of gyptide mosquito. The city's main intention in building the water works was not so much to supply clean drinking water to everybody as to supply enough water to clean public spaces.
