The Tory Party's Struggle for Transgender Rights

She wasn't interested in having an illegal referendum, a non-authorised referendum like that. She was always trying to keep the image of Scotland as being on the leading edge of progressive politics and portray Tories as right-wing bigots. But she picked up on the trans issue, which is a spinoff from identity politics. The party had to change its constitution so it could include more diverse members such as disabled people or LGBT groups. That's really turbocharged this drive for Trans rights, reform, gender laws.
