Is It a Benefit or a Hindrance?
In scotland more people are broadly happier, just undated a life. They're happier with their position and make the best life that they can at that level. I'm a great believer in social mobility but one of the kind of down sides of baritocracy is it just feels harder when you fail. If you create a truly meritocratic society and then individuals fail, they've cind of got no one to blame o themselves. And so, you know, meritocracy has a cost. It's, if you look at kind of suicide rates, for example, suicide rates. Suicide is not a problem in feudal societies, because everyone knows their place. Even people at the bottom
