Luke, chapter 20, verse 27. Where in the new testament do we see imagery from? And statements of this chapter taken up and developed? Jesus challenges those who deny that there is a resurrection. The purpose of this commandment is to deal with the threat of death. Death can condemn people to futility. It can mean that some one's name is lost and cut off. So the brother is there to come in and to raise up seed his brother who has died. Acting on his brother's behalf, he insures that his brother's name is not blotted out.
