The Reaction to the Civil War

Is there a sense in which this was a final reaction to the Civil War, to the country being torn apart? Does that come into the mix of thinking at all? Absolutely. I mean, it's a reaction to... Because that was only 50 years previously. That's right. The two parties that you have in the late 17th, 38th century, the Whigs and the Tories, are essentially the parties that fought the Civil War.
