The Dickens of London

Dickens was probably the first London writer to tap into the extraordinary vivacity of Imperial, early 19th century London. He gave a stage to fringe people, to little people. Dickens is brilliant at portraying that whole edge of society. And what he particularly liked were these people who lived at the edge of the crossing sweep: dressmaker, Nancy and Fagan's boys.
