In 1807, Napoleon goes and does something incredibly stupid as he would figure out much later. So he invaded Spain and Venezuela then rejected French rule through the new Spanish government that was put in charge. The junta of Caracas got Simone Bolivar's services as a diplomat to try and ask for British support in trying to gain Venezuelan independence. But Britain didn't want any part of this because they were still attached to their relationship with Spain. And after a whole bunch of campaigning, the movement eventually would succeed.
