The Islamic Golden Age
Christians and jews, zoroastrians and other subjects of this new empire were considered to be dhimi. This means they were legally protected and enabled to practise their various religions provided that they paid a certain poll tax. There also was a welfare system set up to support the poor and indigent of all religions. So this is basically the the beginnings of what we would later call the the islamic golden age.
