In an ideal world, I think the job of development engineer ends with once you validate the introduction. And then everything else can be taken care by the platform. The ML engineer needs one to know enough in his company to be independent and get feedback from his bottle. It really depends on the maturity of the company.
Summary
Using machine learning in production requires a sophisticated set of cooperating technologies. A majority of resources that are available for understanding how to design and operate these platforms are focused on either simple examples that don’t scale, or over-engineered technologies designed for the massive scale of big tech companies.
