The Role of Workers in the Evolution of the Superorganism

Rock ants perform a variety of roles, they don't have worker and soldier ants. Each one will tend to focus on certain tasks such as foraging or defending the colony from potential aggressors. Under benign conditions, there's a long decision process before they'll move into this new nest. But when the evacuation was initiated due to the threat of a predator, they moved very quickly and succinctly into a new nest. That is a very striking result.
