The Light and the Dark Within the Human Psyche
I know his part of the country especially well. I read him first in a series where I'd say in my early twenties and didn't take to it at all because it felt too close to home. It took a while actually before I went back. And what you find is well he has naturally and properly has that reputation for empathy and a kindness which is a lot of roguery in there as well. There's a glint of lovely kind of comic malice that often comes into the stories and really kind of in life and stuff and spices them.
