There's this increasing tendency for countries to behave as if the only sort of check on their own behavior is their private decision making. Saudi Arabia was never colonized in any formal sense but its behavior was analogous perhaps to some sort of colonial outpost of the United States during the 20th century. It relied on the United States for its security guarantees in return for which it effectively operated its economic policy in the interests of the US now there were exceptions so famously the OPEC crisis of 1973but in general that has held good now how has that changed particularly this year? We're quite focused on you know traditional colonial powers but there are also what you might call rising empires or new empires.
