The Ending of the Gospel of Mark

The last 12 verses of mark are thought to have not been part of the original ending. They don't appear in some of the older bank manuscripts. It looks like this is a later ending, precisely because mark did not produce a gospel in good literary order. The versions we have of it break off very suddenly at verse eight. And so it was felt that there was a need to give it an ending. That ending is largely composed of material taken from the other gospels.
