Before he published his first articles in philosophy, freddie eyr had actually found his metier. He accepted a commission from gilbert murray to write a short book on karl mark' for the home university library. To say he was then a very good philosopher is an understatement. In fact, how he ever, managed to write his papers in great pp finals or he alsos exam, has always been to me a complete mystery. And his mode of composition in later life was not, on the face of it, a recipe for success in the standard oxford examination that wanted four sharp answers in three hours flat.
