In chat GPT, a neural net is trained on images of cats to get an idea of roughly what they are. It can then try and generate something that is reasonable to generate but has never been seen before. The thing that's totally bizarre is that in the end, what chat GPT is doing is it's adding one word at a time - even just sometimes one token,. One piece of aword at a time.
