How I Got My Start as a Writer
CNN's John Sutter heard the story of how Chris McAnlis got on to End of the Wild. He says he started out as a carpenter, then freelancing for magazines and other publications. Then one editor asked him to write about what it was like to be stuck in a tent during an expedition. That piece became "Tent bound," which led to another assignment with Outside Magazine. The New York Times eventually published that article; now you can read them both here.
