What Do You Think Is Wrong With Human Rights?
Human rights is a very protestant formulation, this kind of modern idea of rights. It has the same universal caste as has the christian god,. You know, it's something hat that we've been willing to go to war for in the past. And i think especially when it comes to american foreign policy, human rights advocacy plays a huge legitimizing role. I don't think thereis anything wrong with making sure that kids have enough food to eat, or that sexual assault is criminalized. My objection isn't as much to the actual content of the policies as to their kind of epistemic roots.
