Reeser: Scapegoats are someone who's a little bit different than others for whatever arbitrary reason. Maybe they're too tall, maybe theyr too short, maybe they're too pretty. Maybe they've got deformities, maybe theyve got a hunchback. That's why you notice that the gods of mythology have certain deformities. In many cases, it would be ritual cannibalism. And so that scapegolding event of devouring or defeating or or vanquishing a common threat creates a catharsis,. creates relief and transcendent belonging amongst people at war with one another.
