In the fifties through seventies, people became obsessed with this idea of self esteem and self worth. And parents took that challenge very seriously. So hade given everybody a participation trophy, wold build theirselvs worth. Now i'm not sure it's possible to pin point exactly when that moment was, but it seems like the 19 nineties were the tipping point.
