Lan powell was the one person who perhaps could have stopped the whole thing in its tracks with the resigna, or at least delayed it fatally. Delay almost meant to sa an as precisely, death for for the cause of the war. No way on god's earth could he walk away at that point. It would have been an unthinkable act of disloyalty to the president and his own soldiers. The kids were the ones who fought, powell often reminded himself. So yes, they'd be marching off to the war that he could, at this point still have maybe prevented. This is colin powe's last stand, and he's standing in the exact wrong direction.
