neural network can reverse angineer quantities that physicists use to analyze these things. It's found a lot of the same kinds of calculations that physicists do when they think about these problems. One of the challenges, of course, is understanding what it's doing. We're trying to understand what our networks are doing to make sure that what it's learning is really physics.
