The T-Shaped Model of a Designer

Most of the companies and teams that I work with have some flavor of design system in place. But typically what I find is the designer isn't doing the visual stuff from scratch. That's when I look to bring in someone who's a highly specialized UI designer or visual designer. Even the enterprise stuff I've done in the past eight years with step ladder has been more. We need somebody who's mostly UX designer, but is good enough of visual design to use our components and put together a beautiful UI.
