The Art of Painting in the Church Contest Context

The church commissioned artists to create works of art that glorified religion in some way. The bishop, or whatever who wanted to commission the work, they wanted themselves to look holy. They would have viewed artists as having a gift from god. But most importantly, why did the church want gorgeous churches full of folkand sculptures? Why do they want paintings up and down the pews that represent scenes from the bible?"
