William Morgan's book, Illustrations of Masonry, shows that he had patiently infiltrated Masonry to such an extent that he became a thorough student of it. Whether he just did this as a spy with the intention of always releasing the secrets will always remain a mystery. But based on the actual content of his book, it was a truly explosive document that probably set back the secret aspect of Freemasonry for many decades.
