The purpose of a goal is to turn you into the type of person who could achieve that goal. It's to give you the parimeters, or the guide posts, around thetype of person you want to be. Overtly, you might set a goal of losing ten pounds. But that goal turns you into the kind of person who wakes up at six 30 a m to get to the gim by seven. And it turns you into an attentive water drinker throughout the day.
