Why Should Any One Listen to the King?

The president of a neolithic society may be referred to as a king. The question would have to be asked, why should any one listen to the king? Well, if those who were close to the king championed him as somebody who has been spiritually elected by the gods,. then that may be enough to convince the society of people to follow that king.
