In latin, the word for hundred was kentum, spelled c e n t u m. Keep in mind that the c was always pronounced as a k in latin. In sanscrit, the word was satum, spelled s a t e m. Early linguists looked at the various words for hundred across all the indo european languages. All of those languages were spoken in the west. This process is called assibilation by linguists and itis also sometimes called palatilization.
