The chinese in west bornia were still mostly haka and, to a lesser extent, hoklo chinese. They didn't know this yet, but soon learn their biggest headache concerned the dutch who had been sniffing around westborneo since 16 98. And so with this state of affairs, the chinese began to discuss ways to organize for their common defence against these two forces. As they began to do this, they all split up into their various linguistic groups, or by their clans or surnames, or through the temples or cults that they followed.
