The Negative Effects of Gender Socialization

The concept of anyone gaining self-esteem out of their traditional femininity is a bit nauseating to me because it's a standard that was formed by men as a means of oppression. I would argue that the gender binary in general is more oppressive than not. It may come down to my own jealousy that a man would be able to take pride in his gender Because those positive masculine qualities are more desirable characteristics than those associated with women. They grant power, respect, and freedom in the world. If I want access to these things, I have to step into a more masculine persona, which I resent.
